Home to more than 100 species of butterflies, Lantau Island accounts for 40% of Hong Kong’s total butterfly population. To celebrate this unique ecosystem, we are very excited to work with Citygate Outlets and Swire Properties for the first time to create the iridescent ‘Shadows of Butterflies’ installation.

Since June 2023, we have collected over 800 kilograms of used glass bottles from more than 60 F&B tenants and two in-mall recycling bins at Citygate Outlets. The resulting 600 pairs of butterfly wings in various shades took five months to complete.

The 600 translucent and recycled glass butterflies were arranged meticulously to form an organic composition that imitates a flutter of butterflies. Making use of parametric 3D modelling tools, our team is passionate in creating unconventional artwork and design for public enjoyment.
