Why
INNOVATIVE URBAN DESIGN CONCEPT
The 1000m long Kai Tak Promenade (Metro Park section) aims to enhance urban connectivity while fostering community well-being through innovative design. Our approach emphasizes a harmonious integration of natural elements and urban fabric, symbolized by undulating forms reminiscent of Tree Trunks (a branding concept from Kai Tak Design Guidelines “DNA bar”), reflecting vitality and inclusiveness. This design provides diverse communal spaces for relaxation, leisure, and social interactions

COMMUNITY-CENTRIC DESIGN
Central to our vision is the Greenway, a shared-use pathway for pedestrians and cyclists that promotes accessibility and encourages active lifestyles. The wavy contours create various pocket spaces, enriching the user experience with viewpoints and multifunctional areas. This aligns with the need for liveability and walkability, offering a welcoming environment for all ages. The surrounding context is carefully considered, ensuring the design sensitively responds to Kai Tak Sports Park to the northwest and residential developments to the southeast. Our program includes an amphitheatre, playscape, fitness areas, and public restrooms, facilitating community engagement and events while promoting health and safety.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
Emphasizing sustainability, the design incorporates green infrastructure and ecological diversity, featuring a mix of native groundcovers, shrubs, and trees. Strategic planting provides shade and enhances the microclimate, reinforcing our commitment to environmental preservation. Additionally, recycled materials, such as composite wood for seating, reflect our dedication to sustainable practices.

NEW IDEA - WATER FRIENDLY CULTURE
Our fence-free approach, featuring the longest Harbour Steps in Hong Kong (600m), encourages social interaction and a closer connection to the waterfront.

INSPIRATION FROM HISTORY OF KAI TAK AIRPORT
Inspired by the legacy of Kai Tak Airport, the public toilet and shelters echo the area's history, inviting the public to reflect on the past while dreaming of future possibilities.
In summary, this design champions innovative urban morphology and prioritizes residents' well-being, setting a benchmark for sustainable urban development and creating a vibrant oasis that inspires future generations in Kai Tak.
